Defender Two-Factor Authentication

Defender provides a unified, vendor-neutral, authentication infrastructure which can grow and adapt with the ever changing requirements of your business.

Whether your requirements involve simple two-factor authentication, using one-time passwords, or are as complex as three-factor authentication, supplementing the one-time password with biometric technology, such as retinal scans, fingerprint etc, Defender can provide the solution.

Defender uniquely authenticates authorized users, granting access to important information and resources, while protecting corporate assets from unauthorized use.

What is Two-Factor Authentication?

The 3 methods of of digital Authentication

In order to understand Two-factor authentication, it's important to understand the three methods by which people authenticate themselves to digital systems:

There are three universally recognized factors for authenticating individuals:

  • 'Something you know', such as a password, or a PIN.
  • 'Something you have', such as a mobile phone, credit card or hardware security token.
  • 'Something you are', such as a fingerprint, a retinal scan, or other biometric.

Leveraging Two-Factor Authentication

A system is can leverage two-factor authentication (T-FA) when it requires at least two of the authentication factors previously mentioned. This contrasts with traditional password authentication, which requires only one authentication factor such as knowledge of a password, in order to gain access to a system.

Common implementations of two-factor authentication use 'something you know' (a password) as one of the two factors, and use 'something you have' (a physical device, such a Defender Token) as the other factor.
