Low Cost and Easy to Deploy |
Defender Mobile is a low cost, easy to deploy solution that uses SMS to send a one-time password to your cell phone to provide secure, two-factor authentication.
Defender Mobile works with any device capable of receiving SMS and, with no additional hardware or software to deploy, allows administrators a convenient way to implement a secure two-factor solution. |
Key Features
- requires no additional software or hardware
- works with any device capable of receiving SMS (Short Message Service)
- sends one-time passwords directly to your cell phones
- supports all applications protected by Defender
|
How it works |
Defender Mobile is, in simple terms, a plug-in to Defender. No additional software is required on the user’s system and the administrator can easily assign mobile tokens. The user can access the Defender Mobile token in two ways, the most popular reactive method is described below:
1. When the user attempts to access a resource protected by Defender, he is prompted to enter his username.
2. The user then enters his Defender PIN.
Defender receives the request, generates a one-time password and automatically sends it to the assigned mobile number as a SMS. Within seconds, the user receives the one-time password.
|
3. The user then re-enters the PIN and the one-time password at the prompt. If the information is entered correctly, the user is granted access.
The alternative, proactive method of activating a Defender Mobile token is very similar, but in order to generate the SMS, the user must dial the modem attached to the Defender Mobile Server from the assigned cell phone. Defender carries out a CLI (Caller Line Identification) and, if the cell phone’s number matches a stored number; the one-time password is generated and sent as an SMS the phone.
As with all Defender authenticators, the administrator does not have to deal with the vulnerabilities, weaknesses and management overhead of standard, memorized passwords. |
Token Backup
Companies that have implemented Defender’s strong authentication system need a backup for those occasions when users either lose or forget their tokens. Some companies rely on vulnerable static passwords as their backup, but this option is far from adequate and is, in fact, self-defeating. The efficiently deployed Defender Mobile option provides the company and user with a secure, easy-to-use backup solution. |
Zero Footprint means No Deployment Overheads
Defender Mobile’s zero-footprint solution creates possibilities for strong authentication far beyond traditional token use. Deployment is not an issue, making strong authentication available to remote employees, partners and customers. |
Benefits of using Defender Mobile |
With no additional hardware to buy, Defender Mobile is the ideal token backup solution and a simple way to offer secure two-factor authentication to remote workers, partners and customers accessing the network from multiple remote locations. Defender Mobile works with all devices capable of receiving SMS, from Cell phones to PDA’s. |
